California's Sierra Nevada mountains are called the "Range of Light" for a reason. From the deep reds of early morning alpenglow to the locally specific Sierra Wave cloud formations, the eastern side of this mountain range creates astonishing and colorful scenes. I'm particularly fond of the long winding Owens River, which snakes it's way 75 miles along the feet of these massive peaks. My other favorite feature? The Alabama Hills, an otherworldly looking peice of geology that boasts natural arches, granite spires, strange formations, cacti, and increible views of the 14,000 foot mountains standing tall above it all. I've spent dozens of weeks exploring these areas over the years, yet I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of what these areas have to offer a camera. If you're a landscape photographer, I believe this is a must-see location that shouldn't be missed in your life.
